How times are calculated
Times come from the Sun's position, computed on our server with the same open engine as the Moazzin app (moazzin_engine), then truncated to the minute as printed timetables are.
- Fajr and Isha: the Sun 18° below the horizon by default (white twilight). Choose 12° for Isha with
?isha=12. - Asr: Hanafi (shadow twice the object's height) by default;
?asr=shafiiuses one times. - Sunrise and Maghrib: the Sun's upper edge at the horizon, with refraction.
- High latitudes: when twilight lasts all night, Fajr moves to solar midnight and Isha is left out.
- Hijri date: Umm al-Qura calendar; the day changes at Maghrib. Real month starts depend on moon sighting and can differ by a day.
- Time zones and DST: from the IANA database, so clocks that change are handled per day.
These are calculated times with no local safety minutes added. Where your mosque publishes a timetable, follow it.
Privacy
No analytics, no ads, no third-party requests, and only two cookies: mz_place, which remembers the city page you last opened so the home page can take you there (it holds that page's address, not your location; one year; clear it with “Forget” on the home page or in your browser settings), and a sign-in cookie for mosque admins under /admin. Your choices (Asr, Isha, language) live in the address bar, and, if your browser allows, in this browser's local storage so they stick. They never leave your device. "Use my location" runs in your browser and only picks the nearest large city from a list embedded in the page.
The privacy policy covers the site and the app in full, including the few features that go online. See also the terms of use and credits.
The app
The Moazzin app adds adhan alerts, widgets and the Qibla compass. It is free and has no ads or tracking. Store links will be listed here.
The app's optional Quran translation and tafseer packs are plain files served from this site (/packs/); downloading one sends nothing about you. If you browse the app's public catalogues it contacts api.alquran.cloud (translations) or cdn.jsdelivr.net (tafseer) instead, only when you open them.
The app's Listen tab reads its list of reciters from this site (/audio/catalogue.json) and plays or downloads recitations straight from cdn.islamic.network, whose terms allow it, only when you play or download one. Nothing about you is sent.
City data: GeoNames (CC BY 4.0). Urdu text uses Noto Nastaliq Urdu (SIL Open Font License). Everything else Moazzin uses is listed on the credits page.
